a winter poem
Here is a winter poem of mine. It was first published by The Comstock Review. Enjoy. Send in your own winter poems!
I was a Brownie, and now I am not. But this photo shows my serious nature. I probably was AGHAST that my mother had me wear white shoes with a brown dress and socks!
Blood Snow
ReplyDeleteThink of blood in a leaf,
how it feeds the stalk
until it dries like tears
and every blossom drops.
And of sugar in the maple,
how it runs like blood
from the wound in its side,
and everyone is fed.
Think of blood in the wrist,
how it is sent there
chamber by chamber,
with every beat counted.
And of the leaves of heart,
opening and closing,
running against death,
until it lies down in the snow.
